The ranch

Our ranch is located in Floresville, TX about 40 miles south of San Antonio, TX. We have 50 acres in which we have goats, pet Kune Kune pigs and miniature mules. We fell in love with the Turkish Boz Shepherd breed about 4 years ago. We wanted a breed that would protect livestock from predators and be a part of the family.

Nigerian Dwarf Goats

We have a herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats. The Nigerian dwarf is a miniature dairy goat that originated in West Africa and developed in the United States. It stands no more than 22.5 inches tall and bucks no more than 23.5 inches tall.  Nigerian dwarfs are friendly and easy keepers.

Female Nigerian dwarf goats produce a substantial amount of milk for their size. Nigerian dwarf goats’ milk can also be turned into products like yogurt, cheese, and soap.

As dairy goats, Nigerian dwarves can be kept successfully in all climates, according to ADGA protocols on weather and housing. Their shelters don’t need to be elaborate, but they do need to be clean, dry, well-ventilated, and draft-free. Goats hate the rain so a shelter is essential.

Kune Kune pigs

Violet and PeeWee are our two Kune Kune pigs. These are Maxs’ favorites. When in the pasture, he is often found with the pigs.

Kune Kunes have a short, upward snout and are known as grazing pigs. They were first imported into the U.S. in 1996 from New Zealand and United Kingdom. They weigh 200-400 pounds and are easy keepers. They are friendly and smart and will come when called – especially at meal time!

Longhorns

Tex and Hondo are the two longhorn steers that roam the ranch. Total horn on each is about 100”. They are always close together and enjoy resting in the loafing sheds on hot days.

Mules, Gypsy VAnner, & Minis

We have one Gypsy Vanner horse, Rowdy. Here is a picture of our farrier, Brandon, training Rowdy to drive a cart. We have 3 saddle mules, Peppy, Laramie and Betty. We have a small herd of miniature ponies and mules. Also, we have one donkey, Nugget, who is the father of the miniature mule herd.

Llamas
& Alpacas

Llamas are the easiest keepers. They graze, require little feed and do not challenge fences. They are friendly, but will also stand guard. Strawberry is the mother for Gigi. Gigi is half llama and half alpaca and will get in the face of any stranger.

We have two new to our herd, Ford and Mercury.

Birds

We have 4 exotic birds. Rocky and Rosie are a blue & gold and a green wing macaw. Lizzy and Squeaky are a moluccan and umbrella cockatoo.
